Sneak Peak: Basking in Reality

A Rough is a Rough is a Rough...Mix, that is.

Well, I started this album in February, and as of yesterday, everything is done on all tracks except for the vocals. All 12 tracks are produced, edited and roughly mixed. I’ll complete vocals over the new couple of weeks and from there finish the final mix, and hopefully will be done as planned by the end of the year. (We’ll see, LOL but I’m a hopeful and determined).

This process has gone a lot smoother than I ever thought it would and I’m very happy with the results. It appears experience makes things easier! Who knew?!

It’s fortuitous that vocals are typically done last, because well…I hate studio singing. It’s never been my forte. But I’m better prepared than I ever have been having also spent this year working for one of NYC’s best coaches and learning new exercises and technique from her. So one final focused sprint to the finish on the recording front.

I wrote this song on the drive home from dropping my step-daughter off at school. Inspired by the angst, flurry and last minute preparation of Fall audition season, it’s my message to all the young artists out there to remember to look up once in awhile. The chorus was complete by the time I got home and the rest came in about an hour that morning, which I posted to social as a teaser (I have a new public Instagram account at Andrea Bensmiller Music and an artist page on the Facecrack, which will both be used going forward to promote original music if you’d like to follow there).

I guess things really do get easier the longer you do them. ;)

I’m crazy excited to share the whole album with you soon. It is absolutely - without a doubt - the best work I’ve ever done. And I have Vegas to thank for that - for all that I learned there and the daily practice it provided me.

And yes - everything you hear is all me (instruments, arrangement, production and engineering), except for the drums, which are played and recorded by the amazing Brian Czach out of Nashville.

I hope you like it. :)
A.
